Venice is a very popular tourist area and i'm so thankful to live a short 45-minute train ride away. there are endless amounts of things to see and do in venice.
i have traveled to venice atleast 5+ times in the past year and a half. i figured i could share some things i think you would enjoy seeing while visiting venice.
1. Enjoy wondering around the streets until you find your way to st. mark square.
- st. mark square is beautiful. the shopping around the area is higher end, but nothing wrong with spoiling yourself! plus, you can get a vat refund when going back to the states. Stores inclue gucci, louis vuitton, golden goose, & so much more.
2. Must get gelato! i mean you can't be in italy and not get gelato. there are gelato stores everywhere, and they all hit the spot.
3. on your way to or from st. mark square you can stop at the rialto bridge. it's a picturesque site allowing you to get that perfect instagram picture you've been wanting.
- In my personal experience i enjoyed hitting the rialto bridge at sunset.
4. take a gondola ride, personal taxi boat, or the ferry boat.
- of course taking a gondola ride is a very "Venice" thing to do, but it can be pricey. I believe it was 80 euros for 4 people and the ride was about 15-20 minutes.
- you can take a personal taxi for a little bit cheaper and still have the experience on the canal. it is still higher priced, but the boat taxi can take you from the back of venice to the train station for cheaper than a gondola ride.
- There is a ferry boat that is very reasonable. you can get the ferry boat back to the train station, and it also stops at multiple places in between. This route does take more time than the personal taxi ride, but it is nice to sit a relax after walking all day.
5. visit murano & burano island
- murano is a glass island that you can visit and Burano is the lace island. You take a boat from the St. Mark square area to the islands. it is about 30 minutes. when we visited it was through an excursion company. i highly recommend seeing the islands if you have time.
